The completion of the $2 million renovation has come just in time for summer.

Hundreds of community members enjoying the new facilities and sunshine at the official opening of the Holland Park complex.

“The community was absolutely wrapped about the whole thing. We had over five hundred people attend the opening on Saturday,” Bland Shire Council Community Services Acting Director Adele Casey said.

Work began in April this year, and despite delays due to wet weather, the complex boasts a 50m Olympic swimming pool.

“This pool and the specifications have been accredited by FINA to the point that we are about to hold any state or national swimming championships here and any record so recorded would hold and be recognised by FINA,” Bland Shire Mayor Neil Pokoney said.

Nine lucky people were pulled out of a tin to be the first to make a splash in the new pool - eight took to the blocks and one on the diving board.

The works also include a new grandstand seating area and this splash pad-play area for the little ones.

The multi-million dollar upgrade to the town's only pool has been a long time coming.

“The upgrades have been needed for a while. The original pool that we've replaced was built in 1936,” Casey said.

This water slide and other inflatables also popular with youngsters - some showing off their skills on the diving board.

The new facilities providing the community with an improved swimming centre.

Despite some scrutiny about opening hours, council says a compromise has been reached.
